Visual journalist specializing in data-driven storytelling and graphics
Amaya Verde has spent over twenty years transforming complex data into visual narratives and high-engagement interactive graphics. She has served as a Graphics Reporter at The Washington Post. Her experience spans media outlets including the Spanish-language television network Univision in the US, La Vanguardia, financial newspapers El Economista and Negocio, as well as special projects for Marca, Expansión, and Actualidad Económica.
During the pandemic, she worked for the Spanish Government, where she led the design of citizen-facing digital products: the COVID-19 vaccination strategy website and the Next Generation European Recovery Funds portal.
Founder of her own graphics and data visualization studio, she has combined journalism, design, and technology to make complexity accessible. She has collaborated with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in the US (NAHJ), the Design and Public Administration working group of the Spanish Ministry of Science, among others, and has been a speaker at NICAR, the world's largest data journalism conference.
Her work has been recognized on numerous occasions by the Society for News Design, the Malofiej Awards for Infographics, and the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) in the US.
