José Vicente Mattos Santana is an auditor at the Central Bank of Brazil, where he has worked since 1998. He currently leads the Pix operations area within the Department of Competition and Financial Market Structure (Decem). Throughout his career at the institution, he has held roles in Internal Audit, financial administration, and public accounting in Porto Alegre, as well as the Department of Banking Operations and Payment Systems (Deban), where he served as a coordinator for two decades.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and a specialization in Accounting, Auditing, and Public Finance from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), a Master's degree in Accounting and Controllership from the University of São Paulo (USP), and a PhD in Development Economics from UFRGS.
Additionally, he served as a substitute professor for the Accounting course at UFRGS between 2005 and 2007. His career path combines a strong academic foundation with extensive technical expertise in regulation, payment systems, and the structure of the Brazilian financial market.
