CURRICULUM VITAE (summary) Dr. Axel Didriksson Takayanagui. Full-time and permanent researcher at UNAM, attached to the Institute for Research on the University and Education (IISUE). Doctor in Economics, Master in Latin American Studies and Bachelor in Sociology (UNAM). President of the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI) for Latin America and the Caribbean. Secretary of Education of the Government of the Federal District (2006-2009). National Researcher Level III of the National System of Researchers (SNI). Coordinator of the UNESCO Chair "University and Regional Integration" (since 1995 to date). Consultant of the UNESCO Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC-UNESCO, from 1995 to date). Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC). Member of the Governing Board of the José María Luis Mora Institute (since 2021). General Coordinator of the National Strategic Program for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation. In October 2019, he was awarded the “National University Award” by UNAM for his career in research in social sciences. In September 2024, he was awarded as a Doctor Honoris Causa, by the Universidad Autónoma de Guerrero, Mexico. In November 2024, he was awarded by the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES), for his contribution in the higher education research. Coordinator of the “Education” theme for the National Citizen Agenda for Science, Technology and Innovation (2012-2017). Director of the Center for Studies on the University (CESU-2003-2006), and during his management this Center was transformed into an Institute (IISUE) and its new facilities were built. Member of the first Advisory Council of the University for Latin American Integration (UNILA, Foz de Iguazú, Brazil). Creator of the academic and curricular model of the University of La Ciénega de Michoacán (UCM). Founder and Coordinator of the Network of Public Macro-Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (1999-2007). Vice President of the Union of Universities of Latin America and the Caribbean (2004-2006). “Al Buen Comendador” Award from the Misael Saracho University (Tarija, Bolivia). “Al Mérito Académico” Award from the San Buenaventura University (Cali, Colombia). Ibero-American Award for Technological Innovation (1995), and the medal and recognition as a distinguished researcher from the National University of Córdoba, Argentina (2018). Special Mention of the “Pedro Krostch Award for Research on the University of Latin America”, awarded by the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO, Argentina, 2014). Guest researcher and fellow of the Swedish Institute at Stockholm University, of the Fullbright Program, at the City University of New York (CUNY), and of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, at the Educational Research Institute of the Ministry of Education of Japan (1990-1992). Academic advisor, professor and consultant on planning and foresight issues in different universities, governments and Ministries of Education in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean, Japan, Spain and Italy. During 2017, he was a guest researcher at the Institute for Developing Economies (IDE) in Japan, and at the University of Leuven, Belgium, and carried out other academic work stays in China, Korea, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil and Costa Rica. Visiting professor of the doctoral program in higher education studies at the University of the Republic of Uruguay. During 2024, he was a visiting researcher at the Murdoch University (Autralia), and in the GUNI´s Headquarters (Barcelona). Author of twenty-seven books (one more in progress), of more than sixty as co-author, coordinator or editor, and of more than a hundred articles published in specialized and indexed journals. These works have been published in Spanish, English, French, Portuguese and Chinese. Most recent author's book: Mirrors in contrast. The transformation of the University in Europe, Asia and Latin America. Co-published by Editorial Teseo (Argentina), IISUE-UNAM, the Autonomous University of Zacatecas, and the National University of the Arts (Argentina).2022; and during 2024 and 2025 he published as a co-autor three new books.
