Patrícia Augsten, Secretary of Economic Development and Innovation of Canoas, will address the process of structuring the municipality’s innovation ecosystem (Inova Canoas), which began in 2025. This is a recent initiative that started from a context with no formal coordination among stakeholders, policies, or instruments focused on innovation, and that, within a short period, has achieved significant progress.
The presentation will highlight how, throughout 2025, Canoas developed a strategic agenda for the sector, fostering integration among the public sector, universities, companies, and civil society—key pillars for building a dynamic and sustainable innovation ecosystem. In this context, the InovaRS program, from the State Government, played a decisive role by strengthening regional governance, fostering connections, and accelerating the implementation of innovation-driven initiatives.
The main milestones of this process will be presented, including the creation of institutional instruments, the strengthening of governance, the attraction of strategic projects—such as the Canoas Innovation Park (PCI)—and the consolidation of Canoas as an increasingly favorable environment for innovative entrepreneurship and investment attraction. This experience demonstrates how strategic planning, interinstitutional collaboration, and state-level support can, even in a short period of time, transform realities and position the municipality competitively in the innovation landscape.
