Full Professor of Automation Engineering at the Federal University
of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and acts as Chief-Scientist of the Competence Center on Digital Agriculture – CEDRA SENAI-RS/EMBRAPII. He is Vice-President for Technical Activities of the International Federation on Automatic Control (IFAC) and member of the Brazilian Academy of Engineering. He is a researcher level 1 of the Brazilian Research Agency CNPq. From 2015 to 2023 he has worked as Director of Operations for EMBRAPII, a Brazilian industrial Innovation Agency. He holds a Dr.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Stuttgart. Several deep tech startups have emerged from his research group, including PONFAC, Falker, FuelTech, Gyrum, i9access, and E-Aware.
