Description
The OAB/RS (Ordem dos Advogados do Brasil - Seccional do Rio Grande do Sul) has as its main function to represent and defend the class of lawyers in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, as well as regulate and supervise the practice of the profession. The OAB/RS has several duties and responsibilities, including:
Defense of the rights and prerogatives of lawyers: OAB/RS works to ensure that lawyers can exercise their activities freely and under proper conditions, without illegal restrictions or impediments.
Supervision of professional practice: The Bar is responsible for overseeing the conduct of lawyers and their activities, ensuring they follow the ethical guidelines set out by the OAB's Code of Ethics and Discipline.
Approval and registration of new lawyers: OAB/RS conducts the admission exam, where candidates for the profession are evaluated before receiving the OAB license and being legally allowed to practice as lawyers.
Promotion of ethics and proper legal practice: In addition to regulation and oversight, OAB/RS organizes events, courses, and lectures for continuous professional development, while maintaining an ethical stance in legal matters.
Action in defense of the Rule of Law and citizenship: OAB/RS plays an important role in defending human rights, individual and collective freedoms, and strengthening democratic institutions.
OAB/RS also engages in social and cultural activities, working on projects that promote inclusion, access to justice, and the advancement of citizenship.
