Managing Partner

Marcus Valverde is one of the pioneers of venture capital law in Brazil, having played a key role in shaping the country’s startup and investment ecosystem. Over the past thirteen years, he has advised leading global venture capital funds, high-growth startups, and entrepreneurs in complex investment transactions and M&A deals, with financings exceeding USD 6 billion in 2024 alone. His work spans early-stage investments, late-stage growth financings, and high-profile exits, making him a trusted advisor to some of the world’s most sophisticated investors. Marcus began his international career as an associate at the New York office of Shearman & Sterling (2010–2011), where he advised on capital markets issuances and cross-border financings, gaining deep expertise in corporate finance and securities regulation. This experience, combined with his strategic negotiation skills and extensive cross-border dealmaking background, positions him as a go-to lawyer for global transactions involving Brazilian companies. Beyond transactional work, Marcus is also a recognized arbitrator in venture capital and M&A-related disputes, frequently called upon to resolve high-stakes corporate conflicts. His influence extends to academia, where he serves as a professor at INSPER, teaching Venture Capital for graduate students in business, engineering, economics, and law. For over a decade, Marcus served as a Director of the Harvard Business School Angels Association of Brazil, fostering angel investment and early-stage entrepreneurship in the country. A prolific author, he frequently writes about venture capital, corporate governance, and technology law for Brazil’s leading publications, helping shape market discussions and regulatory developments.
