Alex Szapiro is SoftBank's Managing Partner for Latin America. He co-leads new investment initiatives and management for the 77 startups that comprise the Japanese group's portfolio in the region, including companies such as Asaas, Blip, Inter, Kavak, MadeiraMadeira, Nubank, Petlove, QuintoAndar, Rappi, and Wellhub, among others. The SoftBank Latin America Fund is the main driver of the venture capital ecosystem in Latin America, with approximately US$8 billion invested in late-stage technology-focused companies. With previous experience at technology companies, notably Apple and Amazon (where he had the opportunity to start the Brazilian operation from scratch), Szapiro has built a career that has positioned him as one of the executives with the best understanding of the regional market and the essential business demands of the so-called New Economy, in sectors such as retail, electronics, and telecommunications. He also played a key role in the launch of technology companies such as Palm and Submarino and had the opportunity to witness major changes in telecommunications during his time at Motorola. The executive began his career at Citibank. Szapiro is a mentor at Endeavor, a volunteer member of the Friends of Tel Aviv University Association, a member of the YPO organization, and a member of the board of the Millennium Institute. He serves on the boards of 12 companies: Avenue, Carrefour, CRMBonus, Loggi, MadeiraMadeira, Merama, Olist, Petlove, QuintoAndar, Rappi, Unico, and Blip.
