María Benjumea is one of the most relevant figures in the world of entrepreneurship. After participating, at the age of 25, in the Taller del Arte project and Círculo de Progreso in 1981, she founded Infoempleo in 1995, which became the leading employment portal. In 2011, together with the Community of Madrid, she launched the successful Lidera Program to empower and promote women under the motto "if you want, you can!". In 2012, during a period of severe economic crisis, she founded South Summit, the largest global network for valuable connections for all stakeholders involved in entrepreneurship and innovation. In its 14 editions, South Summit has supported more than 42,500 startups worldwide, and its Startup Competition is now a global benchmark. South Summit is also present in Brazil and Korea.
In recognition of her professional career, María Benjumea has received the Personal Career Award and the Gold Medal for Merit in Work, among other accolades.
